Gilda's Club NYC Rings NASDAQ Opening Bell…

On Friday, December 26th, Gilda's Club NYC Chief Executive Officer Lily Safani rang the opening bell at NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square. She was joined by Gilda's Club NYC members, volunteers, board members, staff and supporters. If you missed it, check out the video on our website at www.gildasclubnyc.org

In and Around the Clubhouse…

  • Gilda’s Club New York City volunteers were honored at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration on Thursday, September 25th. Volunteers enjoyed food and drink while listening to a musical performance by students from the Juilliard School. GCNYC member Edward Sherman shared his membership experience and volunteers received their very own Gilda’s Club backpacks in appreciation of their efforts. Silver Star Awards were presented to those who had volunteered between 5-10 years and Gold Star Awards were presented to those who had volunteered for 10 years or more.

Above: Noogiefest

  • Noogiefest, the annual children’s Halloween bash, was held in ghoulishly glorious fashion on Thursday, October 30th. GCNYC staff and volunteers transformed the clubhouse into a haunted mansion where children and families came together in costumes for this spooktacular event! Members enjoyed face painting, arts & crafts, a balloon artist, sweets & treats, and even a photo opportunity with Miss USA. Games such as Pin the Nose on the Mummy, Pass the Hot Pumpkin, and Ghost Darts were enjoyed by all. Ghoulish goodie bags were handed to all who attended at the end of the evening.

  • Members, volunteers, staff, family and friends joined together in celebration of the holidays on Friday, December 12th at the Winter Wonderland Celebration. The clubhouse was decorated with snowflakes, white lights and twinkling tinsel. Members sipped apple cider, enjoyed wonderful food and sweets, participated in raffles, and spent time socializing in the spirit of the holidays.

New Yorkers around the city support Gilda's Club NYC…

Board member Matthew Schechner and his wife Carolyn with Board member Frank Russo and his wife Ann
  • Board member hosts benefit event in Long Island. Mulcahy’s of Wantagh was the place to be on Saturday, October 18, 2008 for Matthew & Carolyn Schechner’s First Annual Benefit Event. Dozens of family and friends had a great time dancing and socializing while raising over $10,000 to support our program. We so appreciate everyone’s support and we’re looking forward to the 2nd Annual Benefit Event on Saturday, October 3, 2009.

  • Shoppers were treated to yummy appetizers and discounts at two recent events - Loehmann’s (October 23rd) and La Perla (November 12th). GCNYC received proceeds of nearly $6,600. Thank you to both stores for their continued support and partnerships.

  • The St. Brendan’s Parish of Brooklyn Girl Scout Troops jumped their way into our hearts by raising $911 for our organization. We’re very proud of them and we look forward to them visiting our clubhouse in the near future.

Gilda's Club NYC 14th Annual Benefit Gala a Huge Success

  • 14th Annual benefit gala Celebrating Our Family held on November 20, 2008 at the Pierre Hotel was a huge success and raised over $620,000 to keep our program free for members. We welcomed many new “family” members, especially our honorees, Dr. Sol J. Barer, Chairman and CEO of Celgene Corporation and Savio L.C. Woo, Ph.D., Professor and Chairman, Department of Gene and Cell Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine. We are grateful to both of them and their teams for their continued support.

  • Heartfelt thanks go to our host Diana Williams, Ben Doller of Sotheby’s, members Millie and David Gonzalez, Ann Russo, Dinner Chair, Robert J. Easton , Gala Chair, our board, volunteers, staff and sponsors for helping to make this benefit successful – we couldn’t have done it without you! Click here for a full list of our sponsors.

  • On December 11th and January 12th, Gilda’s Club NYC and Associate Board members hosted Open House events in an effort to recruit dedicated young New Yorkers for the Associate Board. Prospective Associate Board members had the opportunity to speak with members and staff while learning more about the mission of GCNYC and the role of the Associate Board. The Associate Board promotes awareness of Gilda’s Club NYC in the community it serves, organizes philanthropic initiative, and provides volunteer service. Members have the opportunity to participate in many different ways, including fundraising, public relations, outreach, and recruiting of new members.
