Gilda's Club NYC Gala Celebrates 15 Years
of Cancer Support and raises over $1,000,000! |

November 18th at The Pierre Hotel,
was a huge success. We raised over
$1,000,000 to help expand our free
support program for all New Yorkers
living with cancer. We welcomed our
2010 honorees, Elliott Sigal, M.D.,
Ph.D., Executive Vice President, Chief
Scientific Office and President, Research and Development,
Bristol-Myers Squibb and Andrew J. Dannenberg, M.D., Henry R. Erle,
M.D. – Roberts Family Professor of Medicine, Director of Weill Cornell
Cancer Center. A special presentation of “The Bill Modell Heart
of Gold Award” was made to the Miss Universe Organization, accepted
by Paula Shugart, President, for their ongoing support over the last
12 years.
Our heartfelt thanks to Diana Williams for hosting, Jennifer Jones of
Christie's Fine Auctions who conducted a lively auction and to GCNYC
member Peter Wohlsen for sharing his story with us.
Special thanks to our gala and dinner chairs, Robert J. Easton and
Ann Russo. Thank you to our board, dinner committee, volunteers, staff
and all our sponsors for helping to make this benefit successful – we
couldn't have done it without you!

15th Annual Fire Island Benefit
Happy 15th birthday to
CWOG and GCNYC!
It was a beautiful sunny day
on Saturday, August 7th
for the 15th Annual Breast
Cancer Benefit sponsored
by Concerned Women of
the Grove (CWOG) – our
2009 Bill Modell Heart of
Gold awardees. It was a sea of pink in Cherry Grove even down to the
beribboned board walk leading to the beautifully landscaped home
where the event has taken place over the years. Over 400 guests spent
the afternoon dancing and socializing all while raising much-needed
funds for GCNYC. They were treated to lively entertainment and
delicious home-made food. Our CEO, Lily Safani, was honored to
have the opportunity to speak at the event and thank everyone for over
a decade of support in order to keep our program free for members.
We look forward to #16 on August 6, 2011!

Gilda on the Run … raises a record breaking
$126,000 … Thank you!!!
The Gilda's Club marathon team
completed the 2010 ING NYC
Marathon on November 7th.
Thirty-two members ran in the
race for Gilda's Club. In total, our
team raised over $126,000 which
will go towards supporting
our mission. Special thanks to our
runners for their hard work and
dedication, Physical Equilibrium
for their training, Modell's
Sporting Goods for our team shirts
and Downtown Kitchen for
sponsoring our team pasta dinner.

Noogiefest 2010
Our annual children's community Halloween party was held in
ghoulishly glorious fashion on Friday, October 29th. Nearly 150
members, staff, and volunteers came dressed in their most
inventive costumes. The crowd was treated to a wonderful
performance by Michael Chaut & Monday Night Magic RJ Lewis,
and artists from The Ink Well Foundation drew caricatures for the
children and performed face painting. Rima Fakih, Miss USA and
Ximenna Navarrete, Miss Universe, shared their sashes and took
photos with the little ones. There were goodies, games, and prizes
for everyone in attendance! Refreshments were generously donated
by FreshDirect, McDonald's, and Great Performances. Special
thanks to donors Vasso, Florence Calixto, Lorraine Carnevale,
Lori Robb, Gina Washington, Ronni Witkin & Kevin Woods.

The 2nd Annual Musical Improv Festival
On Sunday, November 14th, a special benefit performance was held to
support Gilda's Club NYC. The benefit showcased the best female
performers from Broadway and improv comedy including
Cady Huffman, Orfeh, Kate Pazakis and Jill Bernard. The benefit raised
nearly $1,000 We look forward to collaborating with the Musical
Improv Festival again next year!
